Meet Paul Smith

Paul

I'm Environment Health and Safety Group Manager at Coca-Cola Enterprises Europe. I'm the one responsible for the environmental affairs of our business and the health and safety of all our employees. It's a job that really suits me, and is key to the company, as I believe responsible businesses need to serve both the public and their employees. Part of my role is to work with outside organisations with the intention of improving both our business and theirs to the benefit of the environment - for example I work with DEFRA (Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs) on food packaging and food sustainability issues. Last year I chaired a government panel on Food Industry Sustainability, making recommendations to government on reductions that could be made in industry water use; these are already being adopted by the Food and Drink Federation which is launching a commitment to save water in line with our recommendations.

I have two teenage sons who are great at keeping me up to speed with the latest trends, especially when it comes to music - I'm often getting dragged to the Hammersmith Apollo to see one of their favourite bands play. In terms of hobbies I love skiing and playing the keyboard when I get the time.
