Julia
Nutrition and regulatory Affairs Manager. Nutritional guidance for products covers any ingredients that consumers will drink. This includes, for example, advising on the sugar or sweetener to be used and which, if any, vitamins and minerals are added and how much. I ensure that I keep up to date with the latest scientific guidance on food and nutrition and all new research and scientific studies. I work at a practical level with industry groups and other companies and food authorities to help translate nutrition guidance to our products.
I've been at 'Coke' for two years, studied Nutrition and Dietetics at University, prior to studying food law. I initially specialised in school children's diet and worked as a hospital dietician – covering community GPs, children and diabetics. Prior to joining 'Coke', I also worked for British Meat, before joining Roche vitamins, as an expert in vitamins and minerals, including antioxidant vitamins, based in Switzerland. I've published a number of scientific papers on diet and health and food fortification, food supplements and fitting food fortification into diet. I played a key role in developing the Guideline Daily Amounts (GDAs) that are now on the front of the packs for the majority of our drinks. I'm also interested in homeopathic botanical herbal products.
I enjoy painting, dance, yoga, ski-fit classes and going to art galleries, concerts and the theatre. I also help out with a scheme that provides riding for the disabled. I was brought up in Somerset, love green outdoors, walking and rural escapes from London.
